We are into our second season at The Cannon Theatre and there is a lot of exciting events happening! We are getting closer to our goal of being non-profit, and have a huge thanks to Andrew Lapin, who is on the board at The Cannon Theatre for getting the paperwork done. Shawn has a lot of talents, but filling out government paperwork is NOT one of them!

We are excited about Charleys Aunt, opening on Thurs. night, Nov. 4 and running three weekends until Sat. Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a matinee on Sat. Nov. 13 at 1:00 p.m. Don't forget to get your tickets now for this hilarious slap-stick comedy about two young men who need a chaperone and have to coerce their friend into dressing up and pretending that he is a woman! Such a fun comedy of errors and mistaken identity, directed by Ed Knights and produced by Shawn Cannon, with Turtle Taber as stage manager.

We are also starting rehearsals on Alice In Wonderland, our childrens musical theater production. We had about 35 kids audition for this show and have our largest cast ever with 29 kids! Some amazing talent out there, to be sure! Be sure and mark your calendars if you want to come see this fun Disney classic, on Feb. 3---two weekends until Feb. 12----at 7:00 p.m.

The Importance Of Being Earnest

We are so excited to bring this great classic to the stage!
Whenever Jack Worthing slips away to London from his Hertfordshire estate he says he is going to see his (fictitious) wayward brother Earnest. Once there he keeps his privacy by calling himself Earnest - luckily so as his beloved Gwendolen declares she could only love an Earnest. Her cousin Algy is the one person who knows Jack's secret and one day he travels down to the estate, announcing himself to Jack's attractive ward Cecily as bad brother Earnest. Cecily is much taken with him and with his name, so on Jack's return home and Gwendolen's unexpected arrival it becomes clear there are both too many and too few Earnests earnestly courting.
This play will open on June 3 and continue three weekends----June 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sat., June 12 at 1:00 p.m.

His life takes a dramatic turn when he learns that his uncle Anthony, a casino manager from Atlantic City, has been killed. Harry learns that he stands to inherit $6,000,000 from his uncle – but only if he agrees to take his Uncle’s corpse on a trip to Monte Carlo. Otherwise, the money will all go to his uncle’s favorite charity, the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn. In a quest to gain his uncle’s inheritance, Harry sets out to fulfill Anthony’s dying wish. However, in Monte Carlo, he meets a host of quirky characters who are also in hot pursuit of his uncle’s money.

Second Chance Review, Lucky Stiff, And The Spring Classic!

We are super excited for our first cabaret style night at The Cannon Theatre. It is an evening of favorite songs from your favorite musicals----ones that you would love a "second chance" at hearing again! We have asked actors/actresses from all over the Boston area to come and perform their favorites, taking songs from such musicals as "Crazy For You", "Phantom of the Opera", "Wicked", "Funny Girl", "Jekyl and Hyde", "Les Miserables", and "Spamalot" to name a few. Trust me, YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS THIS MUSICAL!!

At the theatre, we have been going back and forth about how we are going to do our seasons. A lot of doing a new theatre has to do with trial and error, and we have learned a few things in this first year and a half of the theatre being open. That said, we have decided to have a new play every spring, a Spring Classic. This play will be an adult/teen play that will be a classic play----one that has been done for many ages---tried and true. The play that we have chosen for this spring is "The Importance Of Being Earnest"----a great play by Oscar Wilde. Things are really looking up for the theatre! Look for new programs in our education and performing area, as we are launching two show choirs starting up in March----this will give more kids the opportunity to have a weekly class where they can learn and perform!

We will also be doing a play this summer over a two week period, for kids 4th grade to 9th grade. There will only be one week of musical theatre class, but it will be re-structured for younger kids---1st grade thru 3rd grade. Rehearsals for "James and the Giant Peach" have been going well, and we are excited for opening night. Everyone has been working hard----memorizing lines and working with the extensive tech that is in the show, and I think that it is going to be fantastic!

It is the story of an orphan, James, that is sent to live with his aunts, Spiker and Sponge, after his parents are tragically killed in an unfortunate incident involving a Rhinoceros. A chance meeting with two old women, and their gift of the strongest magic, marks the beginning of an amazing adventure involving seven fantastic insect friends, scary sharks, squawking seagulls and one very large peach.

The opening night is going to be on Thurs., Feb. 4 and then on Fri., Feb. 5, and the closing night is Sat., Feb. 6.----all at 7:00 p.m. The tickets for this Childrens Theater Production is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under.

The Cannon Theatre is excited to announce its auditions for the musical "Lucky Stiff", a musical by Lynn Ahrens and Steve Flaherty-----Directed by Shawn Cannon.

The musical is about Harry Witherspoon, an unassuming English shoe salesman, that lives an uneventful life in East Grinstead, England. His life takes a dramatic turn when he learns that his uncle Anthony, a casino manager from Atlantic City, has been killed by his blind lover. Harry learns that he stands to inherit $6,000,000 from his uncle – but only if he agrees to take his Uncle’s corpse on a trip to Monte Carlo. Otherwise, the money will all go to his uncle’s favorite charity, the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn. In a quest to gain his uncle’s inheritance, Harry sets out to fulfill Anthony’s dying wish. However, in Monte Carlo, he meets a host of quirky characters who are also in hot pursuit of his uncle’s money.

The auditions are on Thurs., January 7, and Fri., January 8, at 6:30-9:30, with callbacks on Sat., January 9th starting at noon. Each applicant needs to prepare at least 16 bars of a song from a musical----accompaniment will be provided.
There will then be a cold reading from the script.

The shows will be on April, 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, with an matinee on the 10 also.
Rehearsals will be on either Monday or Tues. nights, and Saturdays during the day.

HARRY WITHERSPOON A shy sweet-natured and insecure young Englishman, working as an underpaid shoe salesman in a dreary London suburb. Lonely, and beset by dogs and prying neighbors in his boardinghouse, Harry knows that life is passing him by, but feels incapable of making any changes or taking chances.

ANNABEL GLICK A representative of the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn. Annabel is a young woman with a natural bent for causes. She takes life very seriously, and denies herself any small pleasures, for fear that if she waits for happiness to knock, it won't. Instead, she dedicates herself to good works. Annabel is the type who wears protests buttons and carries a bag full of useful things like tire guages and granola bars.

LUIGI GAUDI A boisterous and gregarious Italian. Luigi is a pivotal character, although his part is relatively small. He wears a beard, and perhaps an eye patch. As Tony Hendon, all disguises come off to reveal he is Rita's love interest.

RITA LA PORTA A woman with an extremely volatile nature and a severe case of nearsightedness. Rita is passionate, impulsive, jealous, manipulative and very insecure about her looks, which is why she rarely wears her glasses. She is also putty in the hands of the man she adores. Things often get out of control when Rita is present. She is a chain smoker.

THE DEAD BODY OF ANTHONY HENDON

VINCENT (VINNIE) DI RUZZIO Rita La Porta's brother. An optometrist. A nervous and conservative man, a pillar of the community and a person who would never do anything out of the ordinary, risky or controversial. Vinnie is allergic to smoke.

Thanks for everyone that tried out! So much talent out there!

I must admit that I didn't get the turn-out this time for auditions that I had hoped for, so I am giving some actors dual parts, etc. This is making me pause and wonder if I should do a musical for children/teens in the spring or whether I will just do an adult one.... I have been having a hard time finding a good musical for kids----they tend to be so cheesy----so I have a lot of decisions to make!

The Cannon Theatre is super excited to announce auditions for the Winter play, "James and the Giant Peach"!! This much loved book by Roald Dahl has been adapted into a superb play by Richard George.

It is the story of an orphan, James, that is sent to live with his aunts, Spiker and Sponge, after his parents are tragically killed in an unfortunate incident involving a Rhinoceros. The play will be rehearsed every Thurs. starting on Thurs., Nov. 12 at 3:30 until 5:30, except during Thanksgiving week, Christmas and New Years break. There will also be tech rehearsals on Mon., Feb. 8, and Tues., Feb. 9.

There will be a fee associated with this production. New Season!

I must apologize for not getting the details out for the new season of 2009-2010! I have been reading scripts and perusing music for our Spring Musical and have not been happy with what is out there for kids and teens. It has been frustrating to say the least!

So, now I have finally found a musical that I am really excited to be doing, but because it is from the Broadway Junior series, I must jump over barrels and through hoops to get it approved to do. Therefore, the delay.

I am anticipating that I will have the entire season announced by the middle of Sept. now.....
Please come by and get a magnet, by the end of Sept.----as I will have them-----FREE----for all of you that have become my loyal patrons. I anticipate that each year will get easier to decide and put together, as I will have everything in place. I already have ideas for the 2010-2011 season----and imagine that each year will get easier to be organized and get the word out!

As for "Rookery Nook", we had some amazing tryouts and David Nanto has cast that show. We have actors from as far away as Sudbury and Framingham, so we are definitely going to be tapping into new areas about The Cannon Theatre! The Cannon Theatre announces auditions for Rookery Nook by Ben Travers - A classic British Farce!

Newly married playboy Gerald Popkiss is headed to Rookery Nook for a relaxing vacation with his new wife Clara and mother-in-law. But, when his mother-in-law suddenly falls sick, Gerald is forced to continue on alone.

Upon arriving, he meets a beautiful young girl who has been thrown out of her house next door and who is wearing nothing but her pink silk pajamas. His sense of chivalry dictates that he offer her help. But, with his prior reputation, a sister-in-law nearby, and Rookery Nook's meddling maid, he quickly finds himself over his head.

I am recovering from The Pirates of Penzance. The show was a lot of work, but was a HUGE SUCCESS!! We ended up selling out every performance and the feedback was tremendous!

A huge thanks to all the brilliant cast and crew! I couldn't have done it all without you. I am in the process of picking the new shows for the 2009-2010 season, and will be announcing them in July, so check back often!

The next thing on the calendar is our Improv Workshop, on Friday, July 10. We have someone visiting and teaching the workshop, Hailey Smith. Please check out the writeup, as well as see her picture on the right hand side of this page. She is amazing, and I have been able to see her in action on stage, as well as work with her a few times, and she really knows her stuff!

The Pirates Of Penzance

We are in rehearsals now and the show is looking GREAT! This classic musical is written by Gilbert and Sullivan, and is the story of a young man, Frederic, and his being raised by pirates, and of course we have pretty daughters, a Major General, and hilarious policeman! The musical is geared for the whole family, and can be enjoyed by all ages.

The tickets are now on sale and are available for purchase. The shows are Thursday, June 18, Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20, at 7:00 p.m., with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The tickets are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids 12 and under.

The Cannon Theatre Musical Theatre Classes 2009

I am excited to announce the weeks for the Musical Theatre Summer Camps/Classes 2009! These classes run four days, four hours a day and are fast-paced, frenetic, but fun, fun, fun!

I write the shows using character parts, and music from favorite musicals and movies, then we work on acting techniques, vocal techniques, movement, costuming, and hair and makeup. At the end of the week, we put on a show for friends and family. The classes are held at 12:00 until 4:00 each day, and they are for ages 8-16 years of age.

The dates are as follows:
Session One: Monday, July 13- Thurs., July 16
Session Two: Monday, July 20- Thurs., July 23
Session Three: Monday, Aug. 3- Thurs., Aug. 6
Session Four: Monday, Aug. 17-Thurs., Aug. 20

The cost for each week is $190.00 with a $10.00 supply fee. There will be a 10% discount if you register and pay before the end of June, or if your child is taking more than one session, or if you have two or more siblings taking classes! "The Pirates Of Penzance"

This past weekend The Cannon Theatre opened its doors for its first show, and sold out every night! The show, "A Little Princess" went really well, with audiences reacting positively to the great cast, the amazing accents, and the intimacy of the theatre experience. The cast and crew did a great job---but now we need to move on to our next show.

"The Pirates of Penzance" is the spring musical and will be performed on Thurs., June 18, Friday, June 19, and Sat. June 20. The tryouts will be on Thurs. March 5, at 3:30-6:00 and Sat., March 7 at 12:00-5:00 p.m., for ages 8 to 18 years old. Please check out the particulars on the right side of this web page.

We Are Adding Another Show!

"The Little Princess" rehearsals are going amazingly well! We did several scenes at the Open House, and the audience was very appreciative of all the kids' hard work. Great job, kids!

The Open House went really well, also, and I enjoyed meeting new people and getting names for my e-mail list for future camps and voice lessons. Thank you to all of my voice students that sang for the Open House----you guys did a fantastic job! I am going to post some pictures from the Open House in my next post, but I wanted to let everyone know that we are going to add another show of "A Little Princess", as I have gotten a lot of tickets sold already and want to make sure that everyone that wants to, can see this wonderful play.

So, that said, we will be having the show on Thurs., Feb. 12, Friday, Feb. 13 and Sat., Feb. 14 at 7:00 p.m.!

So, be sure and get your tickets soon! If you are interested in tickets, please e-mail me at thecannontheatre@gmail.com. Tell me how many you want and the date that you want them on. Then I will e-mail you promptly as to the availability and you can send your check in the mail to the address that I will provide you. You can also stop by the theatre at 410 Great Rd. on Mon, Tues., and Wed. between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 to get tickets! The theatre seats only 60 people, so I don't know if there will still be seats if you just show up for the performance, so try to get your tickets early!

The cost of the tickets are: $8.00 for Adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under. Please try to keep babies and toddlers at home, as there isn't really anyplace to take out little ones that might get antsy---Thank you!

The Cannon Theatre Open House

We are having an Open House and we want YOU to come! Mark your calendars and come and check out our intimate theatre experience!

The Open House will be on Saturday, January 10th, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m., at 410 Great Rd. in Littleton, MA. There will be refreshments, performances by voice students, scenes from "A Little Princess", and sign-ups for our Improv Workshops.
Shawn Cannon will be there to answer any questions that you may have and also give out information about the next show----with tryouts at the beginning of March.

The Front Page!

I got a great write up about the theatre in the Littleton Independent. If you go to the website, you can play the crazy video that they shot of me, also. I was bumbling around about something or another---that's what happens when you don't know that they are video taping!
So, be sure to check it out here!

The auditions are going well so far---lots of talented kids out there! Of course, I am a bit panicked because there are four guy parts and we haven't had many try out----only one boy to be exact, so I am wondering if we might have to use a girl in a mans part. Its not the first time, right, girls?
Saturday is our last day of auditions---at 11:00 to 1:00, and I am hoping for a good turn-out. I will be posting the parts on next Tues., and e-mailing everyone about what they got at that time.

The first rehearsal is next Thurs.----at 4:00 p.m. I have changed the times a bit----because a lot of kids get home at 3:30 and I didn't want them to have to rush to get to rehearsal. So, the new time will be at 4:00 to 6:00 each Thursday.

Well, the next time I write, the cast will be chosen! Its going to be fun!

Things Are Gearing Up For The Auditions!

I've been putting ads out on Craigslist and 411, and have already gotten some responses! So, please e-mail me with the time that you would like to tryout. I got some of the Musical Theatre Summer Camp pictures on the right hand side of this website, so be sure and check it out! There were lots of talented kids this summer, and we had a blast! If you don't see your pictures there, be a bit more patient, as I will be doing another one soon. I had so many that I couldn't get them all on Flickr, so I have to do the rest on a different one. I am also going to post some videos, so you can see some of the numbers from the summer.

I got an e-mail from the editor of the Littleton paper, who is interested in doing an article on me, and this theatre endeavor, so I will be sure and get a link to that when it comes out! I also wrote something for the Action Unlimited ads, so be looking for that.

WELCOME TO THE CANNON THEATRE

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. I am in the process of getting pictures up from our great summer musical theatre classes. We had some amazing talent and some fun times! So, be sure to check back to look at those.

I am gradually fulfilling my dream to have a small theatre, one that can meet various needs and stay intimate, so people feel that they are right there on stage with the action or drama! I am also trying to get a non-profit standing, but right now with the rent for the space, etc. and just getting everything that I need to get things going, I have an in-the-red standing. This said, I will always be open to ideas for grants, and would love any donations that anyone can write off, as it IS FOR A GREAT CAUSE! THEATRE AND IMPROV RIGHT IN YOUR BACK YARD!

Our first play is going to be "A Little Princess" and will need about 16-20 kids and teens, from 8 years old to 18! There will be a fee for the play, as it will be run as a learning class, as well as a show. The cast will be working and learning on all aspects of the show, from blocking and acting, to costuming and makeup. I will be having the rehearsals on Thurs. afternoons at 3:30 until 5:30 p.m., with the class/rehearsals going for about nine weeks. The fee will be $225.00 for the entire session. We will be taking off a few weeks for Thanksgiving and Holiday activities. Then, at the end of the nine weeks, we will be putting on the show! I am hoping to be able to run it for at least three nights, or two weekends, if we can. It depends on the ticket sales, etc...
I am going to hold auditions for this play at the beginning of November, so keep an eye on this site to get the dates and times....

I am also looking for several "tech" teens that might be interested in doing shows from time to time, as well as interning with my husband, Bret Bahe, who does my sound and lighting. There would be no fee for the tech, and it would be strictly voluntary.

I am going to start having Improv Workshops starting at the end of November, if all goes well. I am looking for adults and teens that are interested in participating! They will be on Thursday nights---the workshop starting at about 6:30 and running to 7:30, then we will open it up to the public for a small fee, and you can put on a show for them! I like to work with the long form, so there won't be a lot of games, but we will work on different genres and have theme nights, etc., as well as visiting guests from time to time.... It should be a lot of fun!

I look forward to working with the community on this project and can use ANY HELP that anyone would like to give me! I can use parents and adults for costumes, props, and backstage help----so let me know if you have always wanted to work with kids in the theatre!
